We wish we got more comic/graphic novel work! This is a fun one from Spencer and Nathan. We showed them the ‘bitmap’ trick and the illustrations came out really crisp. They also made their own font for the book, which is no light endeavour.

A great poster from Colin, we’re always suckers for design that relies heavily on simple graphic forms. It’s also nice to finally showcase a risograph print with more than 2 colours. Also, for how finicky the risograph’s register can be these turned out really well. Knowing that we can print 2 colours in one pass, can you guess what order we printed the colours in?

This project was brought to us by the same folks that were running the OCAD University Press. It really feels good to work on projects as important as this one that is part of a fundraising drive for the all important Hospital for Sick Children. It’s got a nice weighty feel and is a great example of the type of full colour work that looks really sharp on uncoated stock. A pleasure!

It is super flattering to be involved with a group’s entire catalogue, so it was a treat when our pals in BP brought us their most recent album. We’ve also always been big fans of Yuula’s work, so that was rad too. It’s a great example of how given appropriate artwork printing on the uncoated side of our house stock can be a really great option. Dark full colour images are a classic dilemma for uncoated printing, but these worked out very well.

Another book printed on the risographs, this piece is a “best of” collection of articles from The Wa Magazine. It features interviews (Nardwuar!), photographs, illustrations, and poems. It’s a great example of how well text prints on the risographs and the ‘artwork’ pages printed in red are really nice too. We suggested to print the covers with offset instead of risograph as the riso ink never dries fully and has a tendency to smudge and offset easily, especially the red pigment.

We’ve done a number of jobs for Ryan so we were keen to help out with a family affair by making business cards for his cousin Victoria. This was a challenging project as the text to be embossed was incredibly fine and required very tight registration. Between that and the felt texture of the stock it is a very tactile piece, the back is particularly smart in it’s usage of the reverse side of the embossing. The colour variations are also very nice, just a simple swap out of colour while on press.
