OK, so this is Alex’s band and when the owner of a print shop makes an album you know it has to be a little indulgent. He really wanted to foil stamp red onto a dark brown stock and to specifically use glossy pigments instead of the usual metallic ones that most people associate with foil stamping. However, the one catch with the non-metallic pigments is that they are mildly translucent, so they would darken significantly on a stock that dark. So the rep from our foil supplier suggested laying down a metallic red first and then hitting the glossy pigment over top. Amazingly Alex was able to dead register the double hits and even the 8pt text was perfectly overlapped. The result is that at the edges of the glossy foil there is a slight glisten from where the metallic can be seen. Then there’s a whole bunch of wacky embossing. Gotta set the bar high!
